Martini Costume

The martini is one of the most recognizable drinks of all time spotted in movies, literature and quite possibly even on your own cocktail table – no wonder it’s a delicious choice for a martini costume. The traditional martini is an alcoholic cocktail made with gin and vermouth at a four to one ratio. A signature olive skewered on a toothpick is the garnish of choice for a gin martini although sometimes it is served with a sliver of lemon peel. Some folks prefer their martinis made with vodka in lieu of the gin and, fittingly, this drink is technically called a vodkatini.  Suiting up in a clever martini costume is guaranteed to be a refreshing and relaxing way to spend any evening. So, why not relax with a martini costume?!

This beloved drink has been called “the only American invention as perfect as the sonnet” and the “elixir of quietude” by writers from the first half of the 20th century. Imagine their surprise to find out that this liquid delight has been elevated further into a fun-to-wear martini costume. A somewhat silly yet still sophisticated martini costume for women features a long column-style gown in black with a long-stemmed martini glass rising from bottom to top; a delicious green olive embellishes the rim of this martini costume. Walk by in this long and lean martini costume and guys will comment that you look like a “tall drink of . . . gin”! This women’s martini costume is also available in a short style for an appropriately named cocktail dress.

Another fun idea for a martini costume is to suit up in a larger-than-life vodka bottle martini costume designed as a foam sheath with a cut-out for your head to stick through.  A friend can compliment your “ready to make” martini costume by getting garnished up as a big green olive with a pimento filling! If you only want to have a hint of a martini costume, just add little martini glass earrings and a matching pendant with your little black dress and viola, a martini costume!

Many connoisseurs of the martini insist that it be stirred gently in ice before being poured; these purists believe that mixing the cocktail in a shaker dulls the taste of the vermouth and bruises the gin. So you might call fictional spy James Bond a bit of a maverick as he very vocally enjoyed his martinis “shaken, not stirred”. If you’re not up to dressing as an actual martini in a martini costume, consider dressing up as this dashing secret agent in a James Bond martini costume. A James Bond martini costume would feature a black tuxedo or dinner jacket along with a bow tie, to-die-for good looks, and a very expensive watch!  Pull up to your event in a flashy sports car wearing this James Bond martini costume and you’re sure to be noticed (we always wondered how this spy pulled off the all the attention).  Kick back and enjoy the high life today in a must-have martini costume.

Hawkeye and Trapper John from the television series M*A*S*H are also aficionados of the martini, mixing up tent-side as a way to drink away the stress of being battlefield surgeons. Suit up in a martini costume and join friends dressed up as these army doctors in the Korean War. You’re liable to be chased around the base wearing this martini costume!
