Marines Costume

The Marines are a branch of the United States military charged with providing protection along with the assistance of the Navy. The marines provide enforcement for amphibious water-land operations and are known to enter by “air, land or sea” and can rapidly deploy a combined-arms unit to almost anywhere in the world within days. The Latin motto of the Marines is “Semper Fi” meaning “always faithful” and the emblem is of an entwined eagle, globe and anchor. Suiting in a Marines costume is a great way to honor these brave and courageous men who serve our fine country.

Be part of “the few and the proud” wearing a Marines costume fashioned after the real standard issue uniforms. A Marine uniform (and a Marines costume) has stayed remarkably true to original styling since more than a hundred years ago giving it an instantly recognizable look. Dress, Service, and Utility are all different styles of the Marines costume. A Marines costume from each of these three styles has its own distinctive look and appropriate time to wear.  Another interesting thing about a Marines costume is that there are no identifying patches on the uniform like unit patches, American Flag patches and the like although a few do wear distinguishing skill patches.

The “dress” Marines costume, often called the “Dress Blues”, is the most formal uniform worn by the marines. Blue trousers with a red stripe down the sides are topped by a darker blue jacket with gold braid, brass buttons and other fine embellishments. A white dress cap tops this good-looking Marines costume. This Marines costume is usually worn at ceremonies, official receptions and other formal military events.

The “service” Marines costume is the equivalent of a military business suit worn to meetings and less formal occasions where the dress blues are not required. The service Marines costume is designed in tones of olive green and khaki, many marines simply refer to this military outfit as the “greens”. A pair of olive green trousers and a coordinating jacket with pockets that is belted at the waist creates the basis for this Marines costume. Underneath the jacket a khaki button-down shirt and matching khaki tie peeks through while an olive green cap finishes off the look.

The “utility” Marines costume is the everyday look of a military man that so many people are familiar with. Meant to be worn while out in the field performing down-and-dirty work, these uniforms are made from a distinctive camouflage print. The Marines costume camo serves to break up the wearer’s shape while in combat and does look different from the camo uniforms of the other branches of the military. Not to be worn off-base, the utility Marines costume is meant only for work on the base or in transit to their next place of duty.

Depending on which Marines costume you choose, dictates the shoes that go with it. Dress blues and “greens” can be accessorized with spit-polished dress shoes while the utility Marines costume needs a pair of rugged combat boots. A Marines costume also needs some pretend weaponry as an accessory to give you a fighting chance at fun. From machine guns to hand grenades, you are sure to find Marines costume props that are a total blast. Special effects facet paints are also useful for your Marines costume. If you are heading out into a jungle terrain, use green and brown face paints to create a makeup mask of camouflage on your face.
